12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” John 6:12 NLT
While spending time off this summer I have been reading the Gospel of John in my devotions — I just wanted to read the words of Jesus each day. This verse really spoke to me when I read it. In context, Jesus has just fed 5000 men along with their wives and children — pretty big deal! You would think that Jesus would say something profound; a quote for the ages. But the words that John recorded are simple of Jesus telling his disciples to pick up the leftovers so that nothing is wasted.
God sends his blessing to all who have a relationship with him through Jesus — health, financial, relationships, peace of mind, forgiveness, mercy, and limitless love just to name a few. I was convicted when I began to think of the time, money, and relationships that I had wasted over the years. It’s not the big stuff that gets wasted; it’s the small things that we don’t give much thought too. Jesus reminds us that everything we have is a gift from God — even the fish and bread we have for lunch — and nothing should be discarded.
Take note today of time wasted, slow down and have that conversation with someone who wants to talk. Ask God for an opportunity to bless another financially — give out of your abundance, whatever that may me.
Father thank you so much for your blessings; teach me each day to be a good steward and let people see the love of Jesus in all I do. Don’t permit me to waste the gift of speech by gossiping and saying hateful words about others. Remind me that time spent with the kids will last longer than time spent in front of the television. Forgive me. I love you so much and ask all these things in Jesus precious name; Amen
