8 To acquire wisdom is to love oneself; people who cherish understanding will prosper. Proverbs 19:8 NLT
Thoughts
Kids, you will never set out wanting to make a “wrong” or “foolish” decision; that is to say you don’t want to do something that you will regret later. I know that I don’t want to screw up in life; making a choice that leads to embarrassment, physical or financial pain, hurting the feelings or lives of those around me, or just making a decision that can’t be undone. But I do; and do such on a daily basis.
When I think about the root cause(s) of my bad decisions there is one thing that almost always shows up, pride; and Pride always brings his friends, Self and Ego. This trio of friends will ultimately destroy your life. Decisions and choices made while being guided by these advisors might bring temporary pleasure or success, but in the end you will lose.
I want each of you to be successful in life; your mother and I desire only good things. But we know that life will not be easy; you will experience pain related to poor decision making. Oh if I could only get you to see what I see; and know what I now know. Run to God each day, beg him to give you wisdom and understanding. Read the Proverbs continually, wear out the pages, write in the margins, and use them as a reminder of God’s love and expectation of you.
Prayer
Father thank you so much that I can be a dad; praying, leading, caring, and sharing in the life of Alex, Joshua, and Christian completes me. I pray your blessing upon each of them today. Help them to see your hand in their life. Grant them wisdom beyond their years and extend to them your mercy and grace for the affects related to their poor decisions. Help Aleta and I to lead them you. I love you so much. In Jesus’ name; Amen
