Love Discipline

3 Guide a horse with a whip, a donkey with a bridle,
and a fool with a rod to his back! Proverbs 26:3 NLT

Thoughts
The whip and bridle are used to get the attention of the horse and donkey — it causes temporary discomfort that continues until the animal does as instructed. God treats us the same way when we start acting like a donkey; stubborn and not wanting to listen to His leading voice.

When discomfort comes your way in life it may (but no always) be God’s way of trying to get your attention. Your mother and I use this method on you kids today — taking away phone privileges or verbally scolding you. It is our way of “getting your attention” in order to change your behaviour.

As you mature in life be sensitive and recognize the discipline that comes from God. Don’t let it discourage you; rather let it encourage you. Ask God for the discernment to acknowledge the discipline and the strength to change your behaviour. Never forget that God loves you and is much more patient and tender than I am; my heart is right in wanting you kids to mature in your faith, but the methods and tone of voice I sometimes use is broken. I will always be sinful and imperfect, but your Father in heaven is perfect.

Prayer
Father I am so thankful that I can be Alex, Joshua, and Christian’s dad. Help them to see past my weaknesses and grasp the prize of living a godly life. Protect and look over them all the days of their life — and give us a home with you forever. I love you so much. In Jesus’ name; Amen
